Kohler has been quietly working on a plug-in electric car, and the company announced Wednesday it’s making parts for the plug-ins.
The automaker is hoping to begin making electric cars in 2021, and will make the cars at a plant in Arizona.
The company will make its first electric cars from 2019-2022 at its factory in Phoenix, which employs about 700 people.
The company has made some news in the past, with the announcement that it was working on making a hydrogen-powered electric car.
That project was canceled, however, because it didn’t meet regulatory requirements.
Kohler plans to begin building hydrogen-fueled vehicles in 2019.
