An Israeli tech engineer will work for the ride-hailing app Uber in the country, the Israeli media reported Tuesday.
The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, said that the 27-year-old graduate student, who did not want to be named, had been offered a position in the Uber Israel office.
The job would be a new role that is part of a larger plan to expand Uber’s operations in the region.
Uber has been under intense pressure to expand its presence in the Middle East, where the country has experienced a spate of attacks on Israelis and citizens since the September 11 attacks.
In addition to the attack on the World Trade Center and the massacre in the Palestinian territories last year, Israeli officials have blamed the Palestinian Authority and Hamas for a series of terror attacks on Israeli civilians.
A spokesman for Uber said the company does not comment on internal matters.
